Aftercare

After every procedure, we will give you very comprehensive aftercare advice. However, if anything is not clear or you forget anything, here are a few reminders.

Botox

  • Do not consume excessive alcohol for 24 hours after the procedure
  • Do not do any aerobic exercise for 24 hours after the procedure
  • Do not massage the areas treated
  • Do not have any facial massages, facials or put any excessive pressure to the areas treated for 1 week after the procedure. This should include avoiding scuba diving or wearing tight fitting motorbike helmets.
  • Do not go to sleep for 4 hours after the procedure, and try to sleep lying flat in bed the night after the procedure
  • Try to exercise the muscles treated for 4 hours after the procedure. So keep smiling, frowning etc.
  • If you get any small bruises do apply ice and arnica cream. Mineral based make up can be applied immediately after the procedure
  • If you bruise easily, you may want to take arnica tablets for 1 day before the procedure and for 5 days afterwards.
  • Try to avoid sun beds and saunas for 3-4 days after the procedure.
  • In the case of underarm sweating treatment, do not use any deodorant for 24 hours.
  • If there is anything which is not clear, or if you are not sure that results have come up to your expectations, do contact us and arrange for a free 2 week follow up.

Dermal Fillers (including Tear Trough and Restylane Vital)

  • Do not consume excessive alcohol for 24 hours
  • Do not do any aerobic exercise for 24 hours after the procedure
  • If you get any bruising do apply ice and arnica cream. Mineral based make up can be applied immediately after the procedure
  • If you bruise easily, you may want to take arnica tablets for 1 day before the procedure and for 5 days afterwards.
  • If you are prone to cold sores around the mouth, and this is the area which you want to be treated, ask your GP to prescribe zovirax tablets for you, to be taken just before and for a few days after the procedure.
  • Try to avoid sun beds and saunas for 3-4 days after the procedure.
  • If there is anything which is not clear, if you feel that you are getting any side effects or if you are not sure that results have come up to your expectations, do contact us and we can try to address your worries over the phone or arrange a follow up appointment.

Sclerotherapy

  • If you bruise easily, you may want to take arnica tablets for 1 day before the procedure and for 5 days afterwards.
  • Arnica cream and ice can be applied to any areas of bruising after the procedure.
  • Avoid saunas, steam baths and sun beds for a few days after the procedure.
  • Avoid excessive exercise for 3 days.
  • Avoid hot baths for 6 hours afterwards.
  • Loose fitting dark trousers are the most comfortable item of clothing to wear immediately after the procedure.
  • Try to wear support tights for 2-3 days after the procedure (10 denier from M&S). Please try to bring these to the procedure so that you can wear them straight afterwards.
  • It is normal that there may be redness, swollen areas, itching, tenderness and bruising as an immediate result after the procedure. All of these will disappear after 1 week at the most. A soothing cream such as Hypercal can be applied immediately afterwards.
  • If there is anything which is not clear, if you feel that you are getting any side effects or if you are not sure that results have come up to your expectations, do contact us and we can try to address your worries over the phone or arrange a follow up appointment.

Scupltra

  • The most important rule is that over the 5 days after each treatment session, massage the treated area 5 times per day for 5 minutes. Use moisturising cream to avoid friction when massaging.
  • Within the first 24 hours do apply an ice pack, wrapped in a cloth, to the areas treated to avoid bruising.
  • Make up can be used within a few hours after the treatment.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure, sun beds and saunas until swelling and redness have resolved.
  • Avoid exercise in the first 24 hours.
  • If there is anything which is not clear, if you feel that you are getting any side effects or if you are not sure that results have come up to your expectations, do contact us and we can try to address your worries over the phone or arrange a follow up appointment.

Obagi Blue Peels

  • Shower and bathe normally but avoid having shampoo or water run onto peeled areas
  • Excessive facial expressions should be avoided as well as unnecessary touching of the face, picking or peeling.
  • Men can shave gently in one direction, daily, if desired.
  • Patients should sleep on their backs for the first few days post peel. You can stay at home during the initial peeling or go to work , as desired.
  • Patients should wash their face twice daily with the Nu-Derm cleanser and apply the prescribed moisturisers and ointments
  • Avoid exercise and excessive alcohol for 24 hours.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure for up to 1 month and continue using your Nu-Derm SPF cream.

Chemical Peels

  • Depending on the peel being used, you will be given a priming cream to apply every day for a few days before treatment.
  • With many of the peels you will also be given a special cream to use concurrently with your peel treatments optimising the effects of the peel.
  • After treatment with any of our peels, you must avoid sun exposure for 3-4 weeks.
  • You need to use a sun protection factor cream every day for several weeks after the chemical peel, as you should anyway throughout the year.
  • After any of the peels, your skin will be red and flaky for a few days afterwards, and in the case of the easy TCA peel, your skin will peel off after 3-5 days. So with the procedure on a Monday, your skin will peel during the week, whereas a Wednesday procedure will mean that you peel over the weekend.
  • In the case of the ICP peel, you should remove the ICP mask after 2-8 hours after the peel, as instructed at the clinic.
  • If there is anything which is not clear, if you feel that you are getting any side effects or if you are not sure that results have come up to your expectations, do contact us and we can try to address your worries over the phone or arrange a follow up appointment.
