Non-surgical Breast enlargement (Macrolane)

non-surgical breast enlargement

Breast and body shaping

We have always believed non-invasive aesthetic medicine to be the future of plastic surgery, and with the recent introduction of Macrolane, that future has already moved closer to the present. With Macrolane we can provide a non-surgical alternative to the ever popular surgical breast enlargement and other body shaping such as that of calves and buttocks.

What is Macrolane?

It is the first injectable hyaluronic acid treatment used to shape the body and breast, and is the latest advance from Q-MED, the makers of the well known facial fillers. It is based on Q-MED's patented NASHA technology (non-animal stabilised hyaluronic acid) and it differs from the well known facial fillers only by the fact that it is a much thicker gel, designed to provide longer lasting and effective body shaping.

Is it safe?

Since the manufacturer Q-MED, launched Restylane in 1996, it is estimated that over 9 million treatments in over 70 countries have been carried out worldwide. It is a biocompatible and biodegradable product which means that it is not harmful to the body and is broken down and removed from the body naturally. Allergic reactions and long term side-effects such as firmness or infection are very rare. A very important safety aspect is that Macrolane does not interfere with imagery when scanning for breast cancer, unlike the silicone implants used in surgical breast enhancement, which can.

How are the Macrolane procedures performed?

The Macrolane gel is injected through a 1.5mm canula. In the case of breast enlargement, the canula is inserted just under the breast, and the gel is injected under the breast tissue. While the gel is being injected, we are able to mould it into the shape desired by the patient. The procedure usually lasts 30-40 minutes only, and 100ml-150ml of Macrolane can be injected into each breast. Ongoing research is looking at injecting much larger volumes.

Does it hurt?

The area being treated is numbed beforehand with a local anaesthetic, and this can cause a small amount of discomfort . Thereafter the procedure is very painless, and only a slight "tugging" sensation may be felt.

How long do the effects last?

The average time the results of Macrolane will last is 12 months, but this depends on many factors including age, lifestyle and initial expectations. There are studies which confirm however, that 75% of patients treated with Macrolane still feel that there is an improvement at 12 months. The average amount of Macrolane injected initially is 100ml per breast, and patients are advised that they will usually need a top up of about half of that amount at 12 months, ie circa 50ml per breast. The cumulative effects of this treatment continue, and in the future treatments, the patient has to have less and less injected and also much less frequently, therefore driving down the cost each time. Eventually, a very small and infrequent maintenance dose will be required.

How does Macrolane look and feel?

Macrolane injections provide a much more natural feel to the breast than the surgical silicone implants. They also look much more natural.

What are the advantages of non-surgical breast enlargement?

Even though it is not possible to achieve the same volume increase as with surgical silicone implants (with Macrolane it is possible to increase the size by one and a half cup sizes), and even though it is not as long lasting as the more traditional surgical procedure, there are many advantages to the treatment with Macrolane:

Are there any side effects?

The breasts can feel quite firm for the first 2 weeks, as the Macrolane attracts water to itself, but this settles nicely. A small amount of bruising usually settles with 1-2 weeks, and a slight discomfort across the chest can occasionally be felt, but paracetamol is usually very effective to relieve the pain. There is also a very low risk of infection or allergic reaction.

Aftercare

After every procedure, we will give you aftercare advice.

I have always been self-conscious about my lack of breasts and became accustomed to wearing chicken fillets and padded bras. Surgery had always been at the back of my mind but I was really nervous about actually going through with it as it seemed so drastic.

When Nick first told me about macrolane it seemed too good to be true...a cup size bigger.....no operation and no scaring! Nick was very honest about the whole procedure explaing everything to me.

The actual procedure was quick, Nick made me feel completely comfortable and at ease the whole time. Within an hour and a half I was at home a cup size bigger!!

Two days later I was able to do physical activities, and 2 weeks later I am back running and at the gym, my breasts look and feel completely natural!

I have been very impressed with the high quality personal service form Nic. Having contemplated surgery I am so glad I came across the boob jab and would not hesitate in recommending this procedure to all my friends.
